| Bioterrorism Germ
Warfare by Wesley Smith We have entered the time of the end. And the world has witnessed a tragedy in New York City that has shocked us in such a deep way that we will never forget it. The destruction of the twin World Trade Towers was a truly traumatic experience for every American. Even people in other countries wept unashamedly as they watched their television sets. Now we know for sure that there are people seething hatred who will virtually do anything˜anything to vent their maniacal zeal. If there are men living in our country who are willing to die to kill others, then no one is safe. Intelligence agencies believe that Osama bin Ladin has trained at least 55,000 terrorists. They are scattered around the globe, living "normal" lives within the borders of peaceful countries. The new term now is "sleeper-agents". They hold down jobs, own homes, their children attend public schools, and some of the terrorists have become so enmeshed into the fabric of our society that they are now members of the local PTA. They are willing to wait for years to strike again. It is virtually impossible to stop a network of killers like this. Jesus spoke of a day when men‚s hearts would fail them for fear of what was coming upon the earth. He also said that a great tribulation would become so terrible that if the days were not shortened NO FLESH WOULD SURVIVE. We are fast approaching this era. Biodefense Studies I did a little research about germ warfare, commonly known as biological war. More than ten countries are known to possess anthrax biological weapons. Some of these countries include Iran, Iraq, Libya, and North Korea, all of them hostile to Western democracies. So at this present time anthrax bioweapons are within the reach of not only rogue nations, but also transnational terrorist groups. The Department of Defense (DOD) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) rate anthrax at the top of the threat list of biological weapons for several reasons. It is easy to manufacture at low cost and in large quantities. Anthrax is extremely stable and can be stored almost indefinitely as a dry powder. It can be loaded in a freeze-dried condition in munitions, or disseminates as an aerosol with crude sprayers. Historians believe that anthrax was the 5th plague of Egypt in the Bible. Animals get it by eating infected grass or inhaling contaminated dust. Once infected, a human suffers a fatal form of pneumonia. What is extremely frightening about anthrax is that one hundred million lethal doses are found in one gram of anthrax material. A gram is less than a teaspoon! It is a dangerous silent, invisible killer. It is 100,000 times more deadly than the deadliest chemical warfare weapon. Anthrax is produced by the bacteria Bacillus anthracis. A tough protective coat allows the bacteria to survive for decades as spores. If an individual inhales aerosolized anthrax, there is little chance of survival from this devastating disease. Antibiotics exist, but they must be taken before symptoms develop. However, the chance of that is minimal since aerosolized anthrax is colorless, odorless, tasteless, and very difficult to detect. By the time we determined an attack has occurred, it would most likely be too late. There are three types of anthrax diseases: 1. cutaneous anthrax, caused by contact with infected animals or contaminated animal products; 2. gastrointestinal anthrax, caused by ingestion of contaminated meat; and 3. inhalation anthrax, caused by inhalation of anthrax spores. These spores can be placed in aerosol cans. Under pressure the spores can be sprayed into the air ducts of large buildings or subways. Anthrax can also be placed in the water supplies of heavily populated cities. The symptoms of anthrax begin after a one to six-day incubation period following the exposure. For cutaneous anthrax, itching will occur at the site of exposure followed by the formation of a lesion. The initial symptoms for inhalational anthrax are generally: low-grade fever, a dry hacking cough, and weakness. The person may briefly improve after 2 to 4 days; however, within 24 hours after this brief improvement, respiratory distress occurs with shock and death following thereafter. The only current vaccine available requires a dose every three months for a period of 18 months. Now we come to the question: "Are there human beings who are willing to attack our country with anthrax?" Since the destruction of the World Trade Towers on September 11, 2001 we know the answer to that question. And the answer is a resounding YES. Yes, there are people (sleeper agents), maybe your next door neighbors, who are willing to murder 100 million people by using anthrax as a biological weapon. We never thought that humans would cross this line of morality˜a weapon previously unfathomed. Some call it the invisible death. No wonder the book of Revelation says that a time is coming when the people of the earth will knaw their tongues for pain and seek death, crying out for the mountains and rocks to fall upon them. No wonder Jesus predicted a time when men‚s hearts would fail them for fear of what was yet to come. No wonder He said that if the days were not shortened no one would survive. But God, in His mercy, will shorten the days! Now the words of Jesus are much more credible. A time is coming when the entire civilization of human life will be threatened. Can you imagine planet earth without any humans? This is a possibility˜except for one thing: God will not allow it to happen. Jesus said that for the sake of God‚s chosen people those days will be "shortened" (Matthew 24:22). Notice: He did not say that millions of people would not suffer and die. But He said that God would not allow all human life to cease. God will do something during this great tribulation to "shorten" the days so that all flesh would not be annihilated. We do not know what that "something" will be, but we can trust God to keep His Word on this matter. He always keeps His Word! Don‚t be troubled or terrified when you hear of wars and rumors of wars if you are a believer. These are the beginning of sorrows, but for the believer this is the most exciting time in history to be living. There will be more affliction, suffering, and death in the coming years than has ever been on the earth from the beginning of the creation of time (Mark 13:20). But for the believer there are several benefits for us. We will see concrete evidence that our Lord‚s words are true. We will see specific things that He predicted actually come to pass before our eyes. This will build our faith to tremendous proportions. And we will be able to do great exploits as we serve Him during these last days. It will also open many doors for us to talk to people about Jesus, the Bible, and end-time events. Personal soul winning should be at an all time high. Use every opportunity you have to ask people if they understand what is happening. Tell them that the Bible specifically predicted˜even the destruction of the World Trade Towers. And another thing that will do wonders for the believer: the time of our Lord‚s return is at hand. We can look for His appearing. This will give us hope like we have never had in the past. His return is not thousands of years into the future, as some seminarians have told us. His return is imminent. We will soon see the King of Kings and Lord of Lords face to face, in person. Jesus promised that He would return to planet earth and the time is getting very, very close. He told us to lift up our heads and look up because our redemption is close at hand. Revelation chapter 18 is a very interesting passage. If we are in the last days˜the end times--- then there is only one nation that fits the description of "Babylon". That country is the United States of America! Some interesting verses from Revelation chapter 18: The World Trade Center Twin Towers came down in "one hour" (verses 10,17,19). Three times in one chapter it mentions the destruction would take place in "one hour". Are these clear descriptions of New York City? "that mighty city" (verse 10); "business men weep and mourn over her" (verse 11); "the business men and CEOs shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment˜weeping and wailing" (verse 18); "that great city" (verse 16 and Jeremiah 22:8); "What city is like this great city?" (verse 18); "with violence shall this great city be thrown down" (verse 21); "by your sorceries were all nations deceived" (verse 23); "she shall be burned with fire" (verse 8); "they shall see the smoke of her burning" (verse 9); "her plagues shall come in one day" (verse 8); "I sit a queen" (verse 7)---a reference to the Statue of Liberty? "that great city reigns over the world leaders" (Revelation 17:18); "people destroyed in a huge fire is a sign" Numbers 26:10); "that company died" (Numbers 26:10); Will there be a SECOND ATTACK or did we already see the SECOND ATTACK? "they shall go out from one fire, and another fire shall devour them" (Ez. 15:7); " . . . so will I gather you in my anger and in my fury, and I will leave you there, and melt you. . . I will blow upon you in the fire of my wrath, and you shall be melted in the midst of the fire . . . as silver is melted in the midst of a furnace, so shall you be melted . . ." (Ezekiel 22:20 ˆ22). The fire in the World Trade Towers reached temperatures of 2,000 degrees. Many people were instantly vaporized! This is one reason the rescue workers have found so few bodies. Summary: Bioterrorism is one of the greatest threats to the human race, and especially to the United States of America. Heretofore we could not even imagine that there would be people who would be capable of unleashing the anthrax disease on a society. Now we know that there are ruthless men who would not only do this, but they would enjoy doing it. They have crossed the morality line. What will it take for people to turn back to God? President Bush declared a DAY OF PRAYER AND REMEMBRANCE. At least one television company changed it to DAY OF REMEMBRANCE. Just a few days after the terrible attack they were still unwilling to mention prayer and God! This is almost unthinkable in the face of such a disaster. What will it take to break people down and bring them to the Lord if the New York City disaster was not enough?
